East-Mab Bio Helps Promote China’s First Group Standard for Cell-cultivated Meat

2024/11/29

On November 19, 2024, the group standard document Meat Based On Chicken Cells (No. T/XYY001-2024), led by BIOHONG FUTURE and co-drafted with East-Mab Bio, was officially released and implemented in China.

The novel protein industry, as an emerging product of the bio-economy era, not only meets the demand for a diversified food supply but also provides innovative solutions to global food security. By leveraging synthetic biology technologies to produce novel proteins continuously drives the development of the industry. In this process, innovation and standardization have become the two core pillars of industry growth. In September 2024, Chinese government explicitly emphasized in its Opinions on Practicing the Big Food Concept and Building a Diversified Food Supply System that while constructing a diversified food supply system, it is crucial to uphold the baseline of quality and safety, improve relevant standards, establish a robust food safety system, and strengthen comprehensive supervision of food, especially novel foods. As a cutting-edge innovation in the novel protein industry, cell-cultivated meat plays an important role in future food development. However, the absence of industry safety standards in China adds uncertainty to its growth.

East-Mab Bio is dedicated to providing high-quality recombinant protein raw materials for the world, adhering to offering cost-effective and efficiency-enhancing solutions for cell-cultivated meat companies. With a focus on the recombinant protein field, East-Mab Bio has demonstrated strong corporate social responsibility and commitment by contributing to the drafting of group standards.

The drafting of the Meat Based On Chicken Cells standard is the result of collaborative efforts by industry experts, renowned scholars, East-Mab Bio, and other participating organizations. From preliminary research and validation to multiple rounds of revisions and refinements, each stage showcased high levels of professionalism and rigour. This standard scientifically regulates key indicators, including technical requirements for raw materials, physicochemical properties and hygiene standards for cultivated chicken products. Moreover, it innovatively introduces a standard for chicken-derived components, highlighting the distinct characteristics of cultivated chicken compared to traditional chicken products. By combining cutting-edge technology with practical needs, this standard provides clear technical guidance for the food processing of cultivated meat products and sets a valuable benchmark for the healthy development of the industry in China.

As the first group standard for cell-cultivated meat in China, the Meat Based On Chicken Cells standard effectively standardizes quality control for cell-cultivated chicken products. It plays a significant role in advancing the establishment and development of a quality regulation system for cell-cultivated meat in China.

The release of the Meat Based On Chicken Cells standard not only showcases East-Mab Bio’s remarkable achievements in protein raw material research and production for cell-cultivated meat over the past two years but also underscores its active role in promoting industry standardization and industrialization. East-Mab Bio will also continue to uphold its innovation-driven development philosophy, deepen its focus on the cell-cultivated meat field, and provide more efficient and stable protein raw material solutions through technological optimization and product upgrades.
